Valentines For Veterans: Warren Students Create Loving Messages

Hundreds of individualized cards with messages of thanks and love in their valentines were sent to veterans this holiday.

WARREN, NJ — Warren Township K-8 students from all five district schools are spreading the love this Valentine's Day as they created colorful, vibrant, and uplifting messages for veterans.

"There are so many wonderful messages emerging from students across the district. I love that they are modeling kindness and respect for our community," said Superintendent Dr. Matthew Mingle.

The district-wide initiative started earlier in the month, when Marco Laguna, Constituent Services Representative and Military/Veteran Caseworker for Congressman Tom Malinowski contacted Warren Township Schools to ask if the district would be interested in participating in Valentines for Vets.

The Valentine's created by students would be shared with Veterans/Service members who could really benefit from the kind gesture.

Students and teachers got to work immediately and by Friday, Feb. 11, the Board Office had collected hundreds of individualized cards with messages of thanks and love in their valentines.

It took three people to help carry the boxes to Laguna's car. The cards were to be delivered to the VA Lyons Hospital and shared with Operation Shoe Box.

"The energy and enthusiasm of students is a daily inspiration and it warms the heart to imagine the smiles their valentines will bring once again to veterans in the area," said Grade teacher Mr. Gamage.
