2 Men Charged After Resident Sees Car Burglary In Warren

Elijah Williams, 25, and Khiree Smith, 29, both of Newark were charged in connection with a car burglary in Warren, police said.

WARREN, NJ — Warren Township Police arrested and charged two men from Newark for car burglary in the township last week.

On Thursday, Feb. 4 at about 4:20 p.m., a Thomas Jefferson Drive resident called police after seeing a car burglary at a neighbor's home before leaving in an Infiniti sport-utility vehicle, said Somerset County Prosecutor Michael H. Robertson.

After looking at a home security camera, police confirmed the report and a short time later, found the Infiniti with two men inside on King George Road, said Robertson.

Inside the SUV was Elijah Williams, 25, of 19th Avenue in Newark, and Khiree Smith, 29, of Sherman Avenue in Newark.

Both were arrested without incident, and taken to police headquarters for further investigation. No proceeds were reported stolen.

Williams was charged with third-degree burglary and third-degree conspiracy to commit burglary, and Smith was charged with third-degree conspiracy to commit burglary. Both were lodged in Somerset County Jail pending detention hearings.
