Warren School Officials Address Concerns About Coronavirus

Warren Township school officials sent out a letter to parents on Thursday addressing the district's preparations regarding the coronavirus.

WARREN, NJ — Warren Township school officials sent out a letter to parents on Thursday addressing the district's preparations regarding the novel coronavirus recently dubbed COVID-19.

"We are fortunate to have full-time certified school nurses in each of our school buildings and custodial staff that are second to none. Together with our administrators, they ensure that our facilities are as clean as possible and that students, parents, and staff learn and work in healthy and safe environments. Please help them do their jobs by keeping children home when they are sick and sharing information about symptoms of illness that can assist in preventing the spread of communicable diseases," Warren Township Schools Superintendent Dr. Matthew A. Mingle said.

There was one suspected coronavirus case in New Jersey this weekend that turned out to be negative, the state Department of Health reported late Saturday. There are no other people in New Jersey who are currently diagnosed with the disease or awaiting testing for the virus that causes COVID-19. Mingle also asked the community to follow the Somerset County Department of Health's simple daily health precautions that can prevent the spread of the coronavirus or other diseases:

  • Wash hands frequently with soap and water, and for at least 20 seconds each time.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.
  • Avoid close contact with people who are ill.
  • Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when you cough or sneeze.
  • Do not reuse tissue after coughing, sneezing, or blowing your nose.
  • Clean and disinfect surfaces that are frequently touched.
  • Stay home when you are sick.
