Warren Teen Raises Funds For Children With Physical Disabilities

Action Team of Watchung Hills High School is fundraising and volunteering for the 4th annual Lakeview 5K on June 3.

WARREN, NJ — Giving back to the community is not something new for teenager Justin Goldberg. At 10 years old he began raising service dogs for kids with special needs.

Now at 16, Goldberg continues to give back through Action Team at Watchung Hills Regional High School, which is a community service club through Volunteers of America in affiliation with the Major League Baseball Players Association. The organization supports those in need, including children, the disabled, the elderly, veterans and those who suffered catastrophic loss, (such as hurricanes, wildfires, mudslides and tornados), nationally.

Goldberg, a junior at the high school, is currently president of Action Team. His brother started the team three years ago and Goldberg took over this year after his brother graduated. The team has since grown to have between 50 students.

“It makes me feel great to do something that benefits others and have a positive impact on others,” Goldberg said.

Each year Action Team helps out the community through a variety of events such as a food drive and fundraising and volunteering for the fourth annual Lakeview 5K on June 3.

The 5K is Action Team’s biggest fundraising event. All proceeds from the race will support children with severe physical disabilities at The New Jersey Institute for Disabilities. The Action Team has raised $20,000 for NJID over the past four years and close to $5,000 already this year.

This will be Action Team’s fourth year helping at the race where they will volunteer by manning aid stations along the course to hand out water to those running.
