Warren Vocational School Student Spends Summer Vacation Working for the Future

Senior Brian Plesko, part of SCVTHS' Cooperative Education Experience program, earns money, school credit and a shot at a future job.

Most kids in Warren Township are preparing for the first day of the new school year after having a summer of vacation. Not so for one local youngster who is a student at Somerset County Vocational & Technical High School and spent the entire break at school, according to the Messenger-Gazette.

Incoming SCVTHS senior Brian Plesko of Warren, who is studying electrical construction, spent his summer vacation working at the Bridgewater facility to help the Buildings and Grounds Department prepare for the 2013-14 year.

As part of the school district's Cooperative Education Experiences, an opportunity offered to seniors, Plesko worked full-time helping with repairs, doing electrical work, moving furniture, painting and general maintenance, the article said. He was paid for his work and school credit. With the start of the new year, Plesko will return to his books, but will also continue his maintenance work during and after the academic day. His experience, after graduation, may lead to a full-time, permanent job.

Students interested in exploring the Cooperative Education Experiences program for themselves should contact the school's program coordinator, Benjamin Pokrywa, at 908-526-8900 ext. 7288.
