Warren Woman Found Dead in Cranford Residence

Pamela Schmidt's death ruled a homicide; a person of interest is being investigated.

The death of a 22-year-old Warren woman whose body was discovered Sunday inside a Cranford residence has been ruled a homicide, the Union County Prosecutor's Office said Monday morning.

The body of Pamela Schmidt was found inside a Cranford home on Greaves Place Sunday shortly after noon. Her death was caused by trauma, according to Union County Prosecutor Theodore J. Romankow.

Investigators have identified a person of interest in connection with the homicide, but no charges have been filed as of Monday morning, authorities said.

The Union County Prosecutor's Office Homicide Task Force and the Cranford Police Department are investigating the death.

Police were called to a residence in Cranford, where they discovered Schmidt unresponsive in a basement room, Romankow said.  She was later pronounced dead at the scene, authorities said.

An autopsy by the Union County medical examiner determined that Schmidt suffered traumatic injuries and that her death was ruled a homicide, Romankow said.

This remains an active investigation and Romankow said it appears to be a tragic isolated incident.
