Watchung Churches Honored for 2014 Blood Drives
St Mary's Stony Hill / Wilson Memorial among top 5 donor groups
The Covenant Committee of Mary E. Wilson Memorial Church and St. Mary’s Stony Hill Roman Catholic Church, of Watchung, NJ, was among the organizations honored on April 16, 2015 by New Jersey Blood Services at the Chairperson & Volunteer Recognition Reception held at the Liberty House in Jersey City. The committee from the two churches was recognized as one of the top five Faith-based Blood Donor Groups in the state for 2014.
Attending the ceremony to accept the award were Fran and Al Ellis from Wilson Memorial, and Dick Blundin, Cathy Vertone and Florence Larkin from St. Mary’s.
The two Watchung churches have had a Covenant relationship since 1978, and gather together twice a year, in the Spring and at Thanksgiving, for worship and fellowship. As part of that relationship, the Covenant Committee sponsors quarterly Blood Drives, encouraging members of both churches, as well as residents of Watchung and surrounding communities, to help save lives through their donations of blood. Last year’s three drives raised a total of 144 pints of blood.
The next Covenant-sponsored Blood Drive will be held on Sunday, July 26 at the Watchung Firemen’s Exempt Hall on Mountain Blvd, from 8 AM to 2 PM.
