Mighty Mites

The 2012 Watchung Hills Pop Warner Mitey Mite team continues to impress as they move to (6-0) on the year.

This week was another convincing win, 25-6 at Montgomery on a rainy Sunday afternoon, October 7, 2012.  The Wolverine struck quickly on a first quarter touchdown by Justin Ferreira. Ferreira took a reverse hand-off and followed a crushing block by Mac McAteer to find the end-zone. The point after was no good and Watchung took a 6-0 lead.

After another first quarter run by Ferreira, this time he was untouched on the play, Watchung extended the lead to 12-0. That was the score to end the quarter as Shane Kelly intercepted a pass attempt by the Montgomery quarterback. Montgomery scored only in second quarter as they closed the gap to 12-6. But, when Tyler Piggot recovered a fumble the home squad couldn't get any closer than that as the game went to the half.

In the third quarter, Justin Drews made a nifty move and took off on a 60 yard run to set up another Wolverine score. This time it was Luke Marion who carried the ball on a 3 yard touchdown run. The point after attempt was successful as Adam Cardoza ran a quarterback keeper for a 19-6 lead. Other key plays in the period were an interception by Luke Marion and recovered fumble on a Watchung punt by Justin Drews.

In the fourth quarter, Watchung put the game out of reach on a nice run by Jonathan deMontagnac. The point after was again no good and the Wolveribes held a 25-6 advantage. First year players Mosiah Brown-Sabatino and Peter O'Mara were in on a fourth quarter tackle as time ran down.

The Watchung Hills Pop Warner teams travel to Bridgewater next weekend and the Mitey Mites will face off another undefeated squad.

Pee Wee

The Watchung Hills Pee Wee football team improved to 5-1 with an impressive, 34-0, win over South Plainfield.

The Wolverines got on the board early when Gavin DeFuria took a handoff and went 25 yards for the touchdown.  Chris Clintock’s kick was good for the 2-point conversion.  On the next possession, Tommy Schelling had a 20-yard touchdown run.  The first quarter was brought to a close after Chris Clintock ran 20 yards for a touchdown and kicked the 2-point conversion giving the Wolverines a 22-0 lead after one.  In the second quarter, Gavin DeFuria returned a punt 55 yards for the touchdown.  The Wolverines went into halftime with a 28-0 lead.  The offensive line opened huge holes throughout the game led by Ryan Trimble.  Spencer Hoffman added to the rushing attack with a strong 30-yard run.  Anthony DeNave was flawless at quarterback as he continually led his team down the field.

The defense pressured the South Plainfield offense the entire game and did not allow a first down.  TJ Pecoraro intercepted a pass which he returned 15 yards setting up a touchdown.  Joey Rica capped off the scoring with a 15-yard return on an interception for the touchdown.  Andrew Haiken was a fixture in the South Plainfield backfield making several tackles for a loss, including a quarterback sack.
