Young Photographer Illustrates the "Textures of Life" at the Watchung Arts Center

17-year-old photographer exhibits photographs in Septembe

Darren Ting began taking photographs when he was six, and for the last ten years has explored disparate aspects of daily life through his camera, as is shown by his vision of light patterns as well as images that catch his eye in everyday life. The 17-year-old Millburn High School student’s photographic work will be on display during the month of September in the Lower Gallery of the Watchung Arts Center. An artist’s reception will be held on Sunday, September 13, from noon to 3PM.
Darren gave his first solo show at Millburn Library, and later at the Chase Auditorium in Madison. Mitchell Seidel of Star Ledger described his refreshing vision as “interesting and spontaneous”. He was invited to present his work at New Jersey’s ‘Unique Vision’ Photography workshop, and has exhibited his work in several group exhibitions at the Watching Arts Center, the Tenri Cultural Center (NYC), the gallery of the Taipei Cultural Center (NYC), and the Montclair Museum.
Darren received a National Silver Award (2014), two-time Gold Key award in New Jersey (2014 and 2015) as well as numerous honorable mentions and silver key awards from Scholastic Arts and Writing Awards. Darren had been interviewed on NY TV1 for his photo-series on light patterns. Last May, he organized, curated and exhibited in a charity photo exhibition titled “Generation Z”, which raised $1700 for The Sunshine Kids Foundation.
The Watchung Arts Center, located at 18 Stirling Road in Watchung on the Watchung Circle, is a multi-disciplinary arts facility serving Watchung, the surrounding communities and the Tri-State Area. The galleries are open Tues.-Fri. noon-5pm and Sat. 10:00am-3:00pm.
