17 Watchung Middle-Schoolers Bound for Watchung Hills
Students accepted into high school's honors geometry class.

School funding is tight these days, but no one would expect a district to "run out of math" for students, but Watchung school officials say that's what happened to 17 seventh- and eighth—grade students there.
The students, 11 eighth-graders and six seventh-grade students, will be taking their math class up Stirling Road from at .
"We had a very unusual group of students," Superintendent Barbara Resko said.

The students qualified for the program by completing a first year of high school algebra, having high marks in their end-of-the-year tests and acceptance from the high school's math department supervisor, Michael D'Alessio.
Dr. Resko said the class will lead to students' placement in AP classes in subsequent years.

Another 17 students at Watchung will be taking an honors class at Valley View School that will be an honors math class in the district. Dr. Resko said the class would transition into honors classes in high school for the students.
