WATCHUNG, NJ — Families in Watchung and Green Brook have several school schedule changes this week, including closures, early dismissals and parent-teacher conferences.
Although the neighboring towns have separate school districts, both have adjustments scheduled for the first week of November.
According to the Watchung Borough School District's 2026-27 calendar, schools will be closed to students Tuesday, Nov. 3, for Election Day, while staff participate in professional development.
The closure applies to both Bayberry Elementary School and Valley View Middle School, according to the downloadable PDF.
Both schools will also be closed Thursday, Nov. 5, and Friday, Nov. 6, for the New Jersey Education Association (NJEA) Convention.
Bayberry has additional early dismissals Monday, Nov. 2, and Wednesday, Nov. 4, for parent conferences. The district calendar specifically identifies those early dismissals as applying to Bayberry only, not Valley View.
Meanwhile, Green Brook Township School District has a different schedule.
According to the district's 2026-27 calendar, Monday, Nov. 2, through Wednesday, Nov. 4, are designated as one-session days for parent-teacher conferences.
That means Green Brook students have shortened school days on those dates, including Election Day, rather than a full closure Tuesday, Nov. 3.
Green Brook schools will then be closed Thursday, Nov. 5, and Friday, Nov. 6, for the NJEA Convention.
Looking ahead, both districts have shortened schedules Wednesday, Nov. 25, before Thanksgiving.
Watchung lists an early dismissal, while Green Brook specifies a one-session day for students and staff.
Both districts will be closed Thursday, Nov. 26, and Friday, Nov. 27, for Thanksgiving recess.
Families can check their respective district calendars for additional school schedule information.
