Attempted Luring Of Watchung Student Reported Monday

The student had been waiting for the bus at the corner of Century Lane and Valley Road in Watchung on Monday morning.

WATCHUNG, NJ — An attempted luring of a Watchung student was reported Monday morning, according to school officials.

At about 9:40 a.m. a middle school student said a white adult man, possibly in his 50s or 60s with short gray hair and blue eyes, tried to lure her to his car while she was waiting for the bus, according to a letter sent to by Director of Security and Student Safety Christopher J. Shea to the community.

The student had been waiting for the bus at the corner of Century Lane and Valley Road in Watchung. The car was described as a white van, Shea said.

The student told the man she did not want to go with him and he drove away, Shea said.

Watchung Regional School District bus drivers have been alerted of the incident and Watchung Police Chief Joseph Cina and his department are investigating and working with surrounding agencies.

No other incidents in the community or in neighboring communities have been reported, Shea said.
