Burglaries On The Rise In Watchung, Residents Told To Be On Alert

Watchung Police have released an image from a video that shows the suspect's vehicle. It is a dark-colored sedan, possibly blue or black.

WATCHUNG, NJ — Multiple incidents of burglary and attempted burglary have been reported over the past six weeks in the area of Ridge Road and High Tor, Watchung Police report.

As a result, Watchung Police have stepped up enforcement in this area.

A resident was able to obtain video of a suspect and his vehicle during a recent burglary. However, the activity is in the background and it limits identification, Watchung Police said.

Another resident reported that a white man, possibly in his 20s, knocked on her door a few minutes before the attempted burglary. The man asked her if he was at a certain address and she corrected him. The address he asked about does not exist, police reported.

Residents are asked to remain vigilant and to report anything out of the ordinary to the Watchung Police Department immediately. If anyone has information regarding the burglaries and attempted burglaries, contact The Watchung Police Department's Criminal Investigation Division at 908-756-3663.
