Bedminster, NJ, October 24, 2014 – Cancer Support Community Central New Jersey celebrated their eleventh annual Spirit of Hope Celebration at the Olde Mill Inn in Basking Ridge on October 9, 2014, raising vital funds to ensure that no faces cancer alone.

Attended by nearly 200 guests from throughout central New Jersey, the event served as a means to raise awareness about the program offered at CSCCNJ, ensuring that people impacted by cancer are empowered by knowledge, strengthened by action and sustained by community.

CSCCNJ also presented their eleventh honoree of the Nancy & Marty Dowd Spirit of Hope Award, an award that honors and recognizes individuals whose philanthropic gifts are transformational in furthering the mission. This year, the award was presented to Phyllis and John von Stade, honoring them for their generosity and commitment to helping people affected by cancer.

Past recipients of this prestigious award include Daniel J. Loughlin, C.R. Bard, Inc., Novartis Oncology & Sanofi US; The Schaible Families; The Central New Jersey Cancer Center Partners; Marc D. Geller, PsyD; The Paul R. Nardoni Foundation; Dr. Kathleen Toomey; Todd Abraham Stires; and Christopher “Kip” Bateman.

CSCCNJ also honored Laura Atwell, outgoing Board Chair, with the Spirit of Giving award this year, to acknowledge her passionate advocacy of CSCCNJ, both in her leadership and her own philanthropy.

Amy Sutton, Executive Director of CSCCNJ, spoke about the awardees. “The contributions to our mission from these three individuals are significant and transformative. Their efforts have helped to ensure that no one faces cancer alone in our community.”

Spirit of Hope is one of several events hosted by CSCCNJ every year; CSCCNJ is preparing for their fundraising luncheon, Embrace Hope, which will take place at The Imperia in Somerset on April 23, 2015. The luncheon will feature New York Times Best-Selling author and CBS This Morning contributor, Lee Woodruff, whose husband Bob Woodruff was injured in a roadside bombing in Iraq.
