Car Show To Benefit Watchung Mural Restoration Sunday
All donations will go towards the final stage of the restoration of the "Legend of Watchung" mural that once hung inside Sears.

WATCHUNG, NJ — The Watchung Historical Committee is hosting a car show on Sunday to raise funds to help restore the township's beloved mural.
The giant painted mural of the "Legend of Watchung," had hung in the Sears store in Watchung for more than 50 years before it was removed when the store closed in 2017.
The car show will be held on April 28 from 11:30 a.m to 2:30 p.m. at the Texier House Museum, 15 Mountain Blvd. in Watchung.

The show will include exotic and classic cars and food. To register a vehicle email Watchunghistorical@gmail.com.
Admission is free. Car registration is $20. All donations will go towards the final stage of the mural restoration.

The mural was painted by Garfield Hunter Jones (1925-1994) around 1965 when the Sears store opened on Route 22 East.
The mural — which is 16 feet by 10 feet — depicts the Dutch Captain Michaleson, Chief One Feather and Princess Wetumpka, the key players in the Legend.
