Cops: Man Used Baby Carriage to Shoplift Cologne

Watchung Borough police reports

Julio Ruiz-Vidal, 32, of North Plainfield, was charged with shoplifting a $38 bottle of cologne from the store at 12:36 p.m. Aug. 20, after he allegedly placed the bottle of cologne in his baby carriage and attempted to leave the store.

Ruiz-Vidal was released on his own recognizance, pending an appearance in municipal court.

Hillside resident Lisa Motyczka, 20, was charged with shoplifting beauty products valued at $124.49 from the store at 9:21 p.m Aug. 27. She was released after posting a $50 cash bond after the charge was filed.

A shoplifting report from Wal-Mart at 10:42 a.m. Aug. 24, made after a female fled with items valued at $26.44 when she was confronted by store personnel.

A North Plainfield resident reported the theft of her purse, valued at $66, while she was shopping at between 6:45 p.m. and 7 p.m. Aug. 21.

A manager at the Getty gas station on Somerset Street reported a man drove off after receiving $49.40 worth of gas at 6:53 p.m. Aug. 21.

Curtis Davis, 55, of Plainfield, was charged with shoplifting Visine, valued at $40.12, from the grocery at 3 p.m. Aug. 21. He was turned over to Somerset County Jail, with bail set at $500.

Wal-Mart reported a woman shoplifted 10 cans of baby formula, valued at $143, at 12:20 p.m. Aug. 20. The woman fled the store when she was confronted by security personnel.
