Could This be Green Brook's Grocery Store?

Among the to-do list recently created for is to attract a grocery store to the township.

While no existing site is large enough to accommodate a World Class ShopRite or Stop and Shop store, we thought this 11,000-square-foot space at 325 Route 22 might be perfect for a boutique grocer—say, a Trader Joe's or Whole Food Market.

We know residents are interested in the stores—the names pop up frequently when polls asking for suggested tenants in empty store fronts are posted—but we don't know if the stores are interested in Green Brook.

"Unfortunately, we don't comment on how we select locations and there's no real formula," Trader Joe's spokeswoman Rachel Broderick said. "Since we're privately held, we just don't really disclose that information."

Whole Foods has not responded to a request for similar information.

While it's hard to say whether Green Brook would fit with Trader Joe's plans, after the inquiry, the township may be a step closer to being a candidate. 

"We're certainly appreciate the fact it sounds like your readers are interested in seeing us come to that area and I will certainly pass that along to the right folks," Broderick added.
