Digital and Electronic Media Signs Coming to Green Brook
Township Committee OKs digital and electronic media signs that can change once every two hours.
Digital and electronic media signs are coming to Green Brook, as the Township Committee heard from a representative of the land use board.
Township Engineeer Richard Roseberry presented a recommendation allowing the signs in the township's commercial zones, but with very strict guidelines.
“The signs would not be allowed to be flashing or moving," he said. "They also can’t be animated. The signs will also change daily.”

Roseberry brought up the illumination levels, and also the recent technological advancements in electronic signs.
“The illumination levels would have different controls at times of day," he said. "Technology is so advanced that the illumination levels could be changed by just using a smart phone.”

Green Brook Mayor Jerry Searfoss didn’t quite agree on just a daily change with the signs.
“Once a day is a little strict—I would be open to once an hour,” Mayor Searfoss said. “Businesses are putting in a lot of money, and to just allow them to show two different signs, you might as well just have a sign that doesn’t move.
"Of course, you don’t want it to change to much and become annoying though,” he added.
Upon Mayor Searfoss’s recommendation, Deputy Mayor Patrick Boccio gave his recommendation.
“Once a day was the consensus,” said Deputy Mayor Boccio. “I would be much more comfortable at once every two hours, rather then every hour.”
After some brief discussion, the committee made a final recommendation allowing signs to change once every two hours.
This recommendation will go back to the Land Use Board for final approval.
