Driver Tries To Eat Marijuana To Avoid Arrest: Watchung Police

A total of 7 other people were arrested for shoplifting and having outstanding warrants in Watchung, according to the police blotter.

WATCHUNG, NJ — A driver from Bound Brook tried to eat it to avoid discovery during a traffic stop on New Year's Day, Watchung Police reported.

On Jan. 1 at 10:17 p.m., Asheley E. Michel, 32, of Bound Brook was arrested during a motor vehicle stop on Somerset Street for possession of marijuana under 50 grams.

The marijuana was discovered in his lap. Michel attempted to eat the marijuana to prevent its discovery, Watchung Police reported.

He was placed under arrest and transported to Watchung Police Headquarters. He was processed and issued a court date.

On Dec. 30 at 4:54 p.m.: Shawan Briscoe, 32, of Reading, Pennsylvania was arrested at Target on Route 22 West for shoplifting $39.99 in the form of earphones. She was transported to headquarters, processed, charged with shoplifting and given a court date.

On Dec. 29 at 8:55 a.m.: Matthew Remy, 28, of Irvington was arrested during a motor vehicle stop on Graybar Drive for having an outstanding warrant for $500 out of Fanwood Municipal Court. He was transported to headquarters, processed and released after posting bail.

On Dec. 29 at 2:01 p.m.: Dennis Thomas, 55, of Matawan was arrested at Middlesex County Jail for having an outstanding warrant out of Watchung Municipal Court for $500. He was transported to Somerset County Jail.

On Dec. 28 at 2:39 p.m.: Brandon Campbell, 25, of Piscataway was arrested following a motor vehicle stop on Hillcrest Road for having an active warrant out of Green Brook Municipal Court for $500 and Perth Amboy Municipal Court for $178. He was transported to headquarters, processed and turned over to Green Brook Police in lieu of bail.

On Dec. 27 at 2:57 p.m.: George Garavito, 26, of Elizabeth was arrested at Essex County Jail for an active warrant out of Watchung Municipal Curt for $500. He was unable to post bail and was transported to Somerset County Jail.

On Dec. 27 at 2:27 p.m.: Drew Desai, 22, of New Brunswick was arrested for shoplifting $94.99 worth of merchandise from Target. He was transported to headquarters, processed and released on a court date.

On Dec. 27 at 8:01 a.m.: Tanazia Jackson, 29, of Piscataway was arrested for having an active warrant out of Scotch Plains for $300. She was transported to headquarters, processed and released after posting bail.
