Police Probe Fatal Stabbing In North Plainfield

NORTH PLAINFIELD, NJ — Authorities are investigating the fatal stabbing of a North Plainfield man following a fight on borough streets early Sunday morning, Somerset County Prosecutor Michael H. Robertson announced.

At around 2:18 a.m., a 911 call reported a fight in the area of Grove Street in North Plainfield, Robertson said.

Responding North Plainfield Police officers found a man, later identified as Nelson Noe Garcia-Lopez, 24, of North Plainfield, suffering from stab wounds. He was transported to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Detectives from the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes and Crime Scene units, the North Plainfield Police Department, and medical investigators from the New Jersey Northern Regional Medical Examiner’s Office responded to conduct the investigation.

A post mortem examination will be performed on Garcia-Lopez to determine the cause and manner of death.
