Firefighters Rescue Deer Stuck On Frozen Lake In Somerset County
The Watchung Fire Department and the North Plainfield Fire Department helped to rescue the deer on Tuesday morning.
WATCHUNG, NJ — Firefighters rescued a deer that became stranded on the frozen Watchung Lake on Tuesday morning.
At 7:23 a.m., Watchung Police got a report of a deer stuck on the ice of Watchung Lake. The deer was found to be a good distance from the shoreline, said Watchung Police Captain Sherif Zaiton.
The Watchung Fire Department along with the North Plainfield Fire Department, came to help with the rescue.

At 8:30 a.m., "the deer was freed without injury and returned safely to solid ground," according to North Plainfield Fire Department.
It appeared the deer had a "pre-existing leg injury, but was still able to quickly run off into the woods after it was rescued," said Zaiton.

None of the first responders were injured.
"This incident highlights the dangers of unstable ice and the importance of requesting trained responders rather than attempting a rescue yourself," said the fire department.
