Get To Know Watchung School Candidate: Rhea Qualls Williams

WATCHUNG, NJ — Rhea Qualls Williams is one of the six candidates running for election in the contested 2018 Watchung School Board election being held on Tuesday, Nov. 6.

There are three three-year seats up for grabs on the board. Candidates include: Dorie Harvey, Margo Langer, George Colonias, Jessica Ingrassia, Richard Buccarelli and Rhea Qualls Williams.

Description:

My name is Rhea Qualls Williams, I am the proud wife to James Williams and mother of five boys. For over 20 years, I have worked as a regulatory specialist both in-house and as an independent consultant with domestic and international pharmaceutical companies. In 2000, I founded a consulting firm that works with large and small pharma to achieve new drug approvals and maintain compliance with Food and Drug Administration and International regulations.

Why are you running for the school board?

As a parent of three children in the district, it is not only important to discuss the issues but to become part of the solution. As a previous board member, I remember what it took to achieve “Excellence on the Hill” and I believe this is attainable once again.

What experience do you have that would help you serving on the school board?

Having previously served on the Board, this first-hand knowledge will allow me to not have a steep learning curve. I am familiar with the process needed to bring ideas forward and how to work with others to proactively implement change. Additionally, my current work involves negotiation between regulatory agencies and my clients. Working in this capacity for over the 20-plus years has honed my listening skills along with my desire and ability to find win-win solutions. I believe this experience would help move the Watchung School District towards a New Direction.

What issues would you like to see addressed if elected?

If elected, I would work with my fellow board members to proactively address the school performance and safety concerns. Additionally, I would work to increase transparency and acceptance of input from the Community. I would like to be a part of improving the rankings for the school and re-focusing the learning environment to one that will appreciate educating the whole child. Dorie Harvey, Jessica Ingrassia and I are running as a team to implement a New Vision and New Direction for the district.
