Green Brook Appoints New Police Chief

GREEN BROOK, NJ — Green Brook Police have a new chief in charge.

Samuel J. Caramela was sworn in as the Green Brook Police Department’s newest chief of police effective July 1, allowing with several other officer promotions during the Township Committee Meeting on Monday.

Caramela, a 27-year veteran of the department, previously served as captain under Chief G. Christopher Kurz, who will be retiring on June 30 after serving with the department for 28 and a half years, four years as chief.

In addition to the appointment of Caramela, Lt. William Coward, a 17-year veteran of the department was promoted to captain, Sgt. Shawn Snyder, a 23-year veteran of the department was promoted to lieutenant, and Officer Christopher Dill, an 18-year veteran of the department, was promoted to sergeant.

Also sworn in was Green Brook’s newest officer, Officer Casey Annuzzi, who formerly served with both the Middlesex and Somerset County Sheriff's departments.

“What I respect most about Chief Caramela is that he shares the same values in leadership, ethics and
community-policing as I do that are so critical to successfully leading a police department in today’s age," Kurz said at the meeting. "He is an outstanding person, and I consider it a privilege to be able to turn command of the Green Brook Police Department over to his direction because I know he will continue the mission of making this department the best it can be."

“To the officers of the Green Brook Police Department, it has been an honor to serve with you as your Captain, and I look forward to continuing our success as Chief of Police," Caramela said. “Chief Kurz, through his vision and hard work, has taken us in four years what most could accomplish in 10, and I am proud to have served as his second in command and to call him a friend."
