Corboz Named to All-BIG East Team

Watchung Hills alum and stand-out soccer midfielder continues to impress.

Green Brook resident  was named to the All-BIG EAST Preseason Team as a  sophomore midfielder playing for Georgetown, the school announced Tuesday. 

Corboz is a member of Watchung Hills Regional's Class of 2011, and was , and a . She captained the team in a season that included winning the Somerset County Championship and the North Jersey Section II Group 4 Championship.

Her selection to the team was made in a vote by the league's 15 head coaches, who were note permitted to vote for their own teams, who also picked the Hoyas to finish in third place in the league's National Division.

Corboz was one of only two sophomores selected to the All-BIG EAST Preseason Team. She was an All-BIG EAST Third Team selection and an All-BIG EAST Rookie selection last year as a freshman.

A two-time BIG EAST Rookie of the Week selection last season, Corboz finished fourth on the team in scoring with 24 points (11 goals, one assist). She was second on the team in goals (11) and scored 11 points in conference games this season (five goals, one assist).

Georgetown is coming off a 2011 season that was its most successful regular season in program history, as the Blue & Gray finished with a 15-6-0 overall record. The 15 wins were the most in a regular season and tied for the most in a season overall with the 2010 squad.

Georgetown finished in second place in the American Division of the BIG EAST Conference, earned a first round bye and advanced to the semifinals of the league tournament for the second time in program history.

The Hoyas play a pair of exhibition games, first hosting Richmond at 4 p.m. Thursday, followed by a trip to Virginia for a match at 7 p.m. Sunday. Georgetown opens the 2012 regular season on Aug. 17, hosting George Washington. Kickoff at North Kehoe Field is slated for 3 p.m.
