Greenbrook Road Reopened After Water Line Fixed
Early morning break closed road for about six hours.

Work on a cast iron water main on Greenbrook Road that burst between Washington and Madison avenues this morning has been completed.
The break, reported by police at about 5:40 a.m. Monday, closed Greenbrook Road as utility crews repaired the break. According to New Jersey American Water Spokesman Richard Barnes, the line was a six-inch line probably dating back to the 1940s.
Water main breaks are more frequent during winter and spring freezing and thawing cycles, but Barnes said summertime demand can also cause problems with older lines.

"During the hotter weather, water demand rises and pressure increases through the pipes," he said. "So the higher pressures that come with high demand in hotter weather can lead to main breaks."
Greenbrook Road was closed for the repairs, but reopened at about 10:50 a.m.
