Fireworks May Come To Celebrate Washington Rock Park Centennial

Township Administrator Kelly Cupit meeting with fireworks companies.

Green Brook officials are meeting with fireworks companies to see about the possibility of making the centennial celebration of Washington Rock Park a special event.

The park has a long history as popular site for July 4th celebrations, going as far back as 1850. The township is considering a centennial celebration for Oct. 13.

“We have met with fireworks companies,” said Township Administrator Kelly Cupit at the meeting on Monday night. “And both companies are very excited about the location of actually doing the fireworks off of the monument area.”

Fireworks don’t come cheap though, and Green Brook will be reaching out to get any help they can.

“We need to reach out to the business community and see if we can get some help to fund our fireworks,” said Cupit. “I think it’s going to be a great day for Green Brook.”

“So sponsors is a key here,” Deputy Mayor Boccio responded. “Hopefully, the business community would be into helping.”

Cupit expected that the show would not be just a great show for Green Brook, but people in Plainfield and possibly even Dunellen will be able to see it as well.

“I think it’s going to be really spectacular if we can pull it off,” Cupit said with a smile on her face.
