Man Accidentally Shot in Chin by Pellet Gun, Police Say

Potential aggravated assault charge against shooter waived.

The Somerset County Prosecutor's Office ruled an incident in Green Brook in which an 18-year-old man was shot in the chin by a pellet gun was an accident, waiving a potential aggravated assault charge against the shooter, police said.

The incident occurred at a King Court residence at 12:30 am. Aug. 11, when a 29-year-old Green Brook resident raised the .177-caliber pellet gun and pointed it at the victim, and accidentally discharging the gun.

The victim told police after he was shot, he said, "Did you just shoot me in the face?"

The shooter then drove the victim to Somerset Medical Center, which contacted Green Brook Police to report the shooting. At the request of the victim's parents, he was taken to Robert Wood Johnson University Medical Center for treatment, and released.
