Mount Saint Mary Academy Graduates 72 in Class of 2014

Mount Saint Mary Academy’s Class of 2014, comprised of 72 seniors, graduated in a special ceremony on the school’s campus on Saturday, June 7.

The class continued the school’s stellar record of 100% college acceptance and earned over $9.6 million in scholarships and grants.  College acceptance includes six of the eight Ivy League schools as well as institutions such as the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Georgetown University, Johns Hopkins University, and Duke University.

“It still baffles me how blessed I am to have attended the Mount,” valedictorian Shivali Govani of Piscataway said in her address on Saturday.  “When I began my high school career, I had no idea what community meant but this journey has illuminated that. The whole community has touched my heart and my family’s heart in ways unimaginable.”

“Since we began four years ago, we have all transformed into intelligent and confident young women who truly reflect the Mercy Core Values of respect, integrity, justice, service and compassion,” said salutation Anne Bocage of Princeton.  “I am thankful for the opportunity to be surrounded by such an inspiring and passionate class.”

Govani will attend the University of Pennsylvania, where she has been accepted to the school’s seven-year submatriculation bio-dental program.  Bocage will attend Brown University, where she will participate in the school’s eight-year Program in Liberal Medical Education (PLME) which combines undergraduate education and professional studies in medicine.  PLME is the only combined baccalaureate-medical degree program in the Ivy League.

“We are supremely proud of the graduating class and all they have achieved, both academically and personally,” said Mount Directress Sister Lisa Gambacorto.  “These young women serve as shining lamps to the world around them.  Their great accomplishments here are only the beginning; each is poised to shape the world for the better in her own special way.”

Mount Saint Mary Academy is a Catholic, independent school which provides an exemplary college preparatory education for young women in grades 9 through 12.  Founded in 1908 as a sponsored work of the Sisters of Mercy, the Mount remains committed to challenging each student to develop her fullest potential in a Christian atmosphere of love and caring.
