N. Plainfield Moms Collecting Clothing For Hurricane Harvey Victims

The two North Plainfield women are putting together care packages to help Texas children and adults in need.

NORTH PLAINFIELD, NJ — With many children and adults suffering in Texas due to Hurricane Harvey and flooding, two North Plainfield mothers are getting the community together to help.

Aaliyah Nicole and Kiana Brewer came up with the idea Monday night to collect baby clothing for children in need.

“I was seeing all the posts online about babies being stranded and losing everything. But I didn’t have money to help. So I thought why not give away my daughter’s clothes that she no longer wears anymore,” Nicole told Patch.

Brewer, who is also a mother, was hurt by the photos of seeing children with no clothes or food.

"I'm a teen mom and have a son and I don't like seeing stuff like that," Brewer said. "If I was in their position I would want them to help me."

Some Of The Many Ways You Can Help Harvey Victims

The pair began collecting all of their kids clothing that they were not using anymore and family also began donating as well.

Adults were also in need of clothing and toiletries in Texas so Brewer and Nicole expanded their collection. The donations will be placed into care packages. The packages will contain a few outfits, toiletries with a prayer message and some encouraging words.

"We are putting in a verse from the in Bible so they can always look at it and see that God is still here and not to give up," Brewer said.

Nicole and Brewer wanted to reach out to as many locals as they could, so Brewer posted about their collection on social media and have already gotten responses.

They are collected all clothing from infants to adults and toiletries. Nicole and Brewer will then separate the clothing and send the packages this week and weekend to Texas.
