Woman Fatally Hit By Raritan Valley Train Sunday

The Raritan Valley Train Line was temporarily suspended for more than 4 hours on Sunday as a result of the fatality.

DUNELLEN, NJ — A pedestrian fatality caused the Raritan Valley Line train service to be suspended in both directions on Sunday for more than four hours, NJ Transit reported.

Raritan Valley train 5524 left Raritan and was on its way to Cranford when the female trespasser was hit near the Dunellen station at 3:45 p.m., NJ Transit spokesman James Smith said.

A total of 50 customers and crew were on board the train during the incident and were uninjured, Smith said.

The train line was suspended between Bound Brook and Plainfield due to the trespasser fatality and reopened around 8 p.m. Sunday night.

The pedestrian has not been identified as of Monday and the accident is still under investigation, Smith said.
