Shelter officials attribute the surge in adoptions to increased exposure, expanded community outreach efforts, extended adoption hours, and shelter enrichment programs for pets in the kennel and cattery.

Somerset Regional Animal Shelter saw the greatest spike in adoptions at year-end with 112 cats, dogs, and small animals finding new homes during the month of December. That compares to 34 pets finding new homes in December of 2013. The number of volunteers has also increased exponentially.

“We are very excited about our surge in adoptions, but the shelter still faces challenges in 2015,” said Bradshaw. “We hope to continue this trend with public and corporate support, as well as increasing private donations to serve animals and people in the community.”

Somerset Regional Animal Shelter is open seven days a week, Sunday - Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Wednesdays from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. for pet adoptions. To make a donation, mail your check made out to Somerset Regional Animal Shelter to:
