Prosecutor: Watchung Doc Practiced With Suspended License

Demesvar Jean-Baptiste failed to meet consent order requirements before suspension.

A Watchung doctor has been accused of practicing medicine at his Mountain Boulevard bariatric clinic with a suspended license, the Somerset County Prosecutor's Office said.

Demesvar Jean-Baptiste, 39, of Kappelman Drive, was charged with third-degree practicing medicine with a suspended license.

In a statement issued by the Prosecutor Geoffrey Soriano, Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Chief of Detectives Stuart Buckman, Watchung Chief of Police Timothy J. Wenzel and the New Jersey Division of Consumer Affairs (DCA) Enforcement Bureau,  Jean-Baptiste was charged with operating the practice after his Sept. 23, 2011, suspension following his failure to meet the requirements of a consent order with the New Jersey State Board of Medical Examiners requiring monitoring of the practice.

Jean-Baptiste had agreed to the order on April 1, 2011, the prosecutor's office said. He allegedly failed to comply with the terms of the order and other conditions established by the Professional Assistance Program and agreed to by him.

Jean-Baptiste operated Somerset Bariatric Associates, at 775 Mountain Blvd., in Watchung. Soriano said when a search warrant was executed at the clinic, patient files and credit card receipts were obtained showing patient services and charges provided after Sept. 23, 2011.

Soriano said the investigation concluded Jean-Baptiste was practicing medicine from Sept. 23, 2011, until Jan. 26, 2012.

Jean-Baptiste was taken into custody Tuesday, and is being held at Somerset County Jail, with bail set at $20,000.
