Somerset County: High School Sports Finals Scheduled For The Torpey Athletic Complex

The Somerset County Park Commission has announced that multiple high school sports athletic finals have been scheduled for the Torpey Athletic Complex located off Loeser Avenue on the Somerville/Bridgewater border.

The High School Soccer Finals will be held on Thursday, October 30, 2014 with the girls competition scheduled to for 5:00 P.M. with the boys final to follow at 7:00 P.M.In addition, the High School Lacrosse Finals are slated for Saturday, May 9, 2015 with game times to be determined.

The Frank “Nap” Torpey Athletic Complex is part of the County’s Raritan River Greenway initiative that consists of (1) lighted grass baseball field, (1) lighted grass softball field and (1) lighted state-of-the-art synthetic turf multi-purpose athletic field programmed for seasonal sports.

Also part of the complex is a 10,000 square foot building for public use with attached bleachers that bring total spectator seating to 1,500. The facility includes two team lockers rooms with bathrooms, large public restrooms, a concession area, and a climate-controlled press box overlooking the turf field. Scoreboards are in place on all fieldsThe project also includes a multi-purpose wireless scoreboard on the turf field able to accommodate scoring for all field sports.

The funding for the scoreboard was provided by the Somerset County Park Foundation. Scoreboards are also in place for the baseball and softball fields.All Torpey Complex athletic fields are available for rental for tournaments, league play, and practice.
