Somerset County Man Charged In "Sextortion" Computer Investigation

A 27-year-old Bound Brook man has been arrested and charged with Child Endangerment, Sexual Assault, Criminal Coercion, and Cyber Harassment after a 15-year-old Illinois resident contacted police about the his lewd behavior online.

According to the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office:

Somerset County Prosecutor Geoffrey D. Soriano, Somerset County Chief of County Detectives Timothy M. Fitzgerald, Somerset County Sheriff Frank J. Provenzano and Bound Brook Chief of Police Michael Jannone announce the arrest of Miguel Angel Moran, age 27, of Hamilton Street, Bound Brook, New Jersey.

Prosecutor Soriano states last December, a 15 year-old victim contacted the Braidwood Illinois Police Department and the Will County, Illinois State’s Attorney’s Office to report that she was extorted by someone on the internet to create and send a video of herself performing a sexual act. The investigation revealed defendant Angel Moran as the suspect and that he resided in Bound Brook, New Jersey.

On October 29, 2014, detectives from the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office and the Bound Brook Police Department met with defendant Miguel Angel Moran at his residence. Detectives located a video identified by the victim, as well as additional videos and photographs of child pornography within the defendant’s residence.

Defendant Angel Moran was charged with Endangering the Welfare of a Child, 1st Degree; Sexual Assault, 2nd Degree; Criminal Coercion, 3rd Degree; Endangering the Welfare of a Child, 3rd Degree and Cyber Harassment, 3rd Degree. Defendant Angel Moran was lodged in the Somerset County Jail with bail to be set.

The Braidwood Illinois Police Department, the Will County Illinois State’s Attorney’s Office and the New Jersey State Police also assisted in this investigation.

Prosecutor Soriano states that the investigation is ongoing, and detectives are working to identify any additional victims
