Spirits Will Soar at NJIO's Free Concert on November 16
New Jersey Intergenerational Orchestra presents a free program of dances at Crescent Ave Presbyterian Church in Plainfield, NJ.

The award winning New Jersey Intergenerational Orchestra (NJIO) explores the transformative abilities of the Music of Motion: Dances, during its 2014-2015 concert season. Music and Dance have the ability to tell stories without words. Dances of the Spirit, NJIO’s opening concert of the season, presented on Sunday November 16, 2014 at 3 pm at the Crescent Avenue Presbyterian Church, 716 Watchung Avenue in Plainfield, engages your senses in a zestful journey exploring both well-known dances and some less familiar, but beautiful works. Admission is free.
Artistic Director, Warren Cohen, will conduct the orchestra in a performance of the Ritual Fire Dance from the ballet El Amor Brujo, which was commissioned by a renowned flamenco dancer Pastora Imperio, as a gitaneria, or gypsy music. The program also includes the lively Overture to Orpheus in the Underworld, which presents varied musical themes and concludes with the famous Can-Can. The orchestra will also perform the delicate, Concertino pour Flûte, whose melody and intriguing harmonies represent a distinctly late 19th century French sensibility. This piece features the 11th grade award winner of the NJIO concerto competition, flutist Serena Huang. Ms Huang, a Juilliard Pre-College and Montville Township High School student, has been the recipient of many awards including the gold winner at the National League of Performing Arts Showcase Competition. Intermezzo conductor Gavin Davies continues the concert with several favorites including Hungarian Dance No. 5, Norwegian Dance No. 2 and the familiar renaissance piece, Ancient Airs and Dances.
