Summer Reading Camp for Youth with Special Needs

In Summer Reading Camp, children ages 5-9 who may be struggling a bit or reluctant readers and could use a little support, encouragement will get reading practice during summer down time. Children will use games, books, music and other activities to improve reading skills, while capitalizing on strengths to instill self-confidence and a Can-do! attitude. Kids work on decoding, phonics, comprehension and choosing books for pleasure reading. We work with each student depending on what level she/he is starting at. Sarah Hanson, Certified Teacher is the instructor. The program runs 4:45-5:30 pm three days a week - Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays (July 1– July 24). You can register for one day a week, two days or three days.

The group meets at the Summit Community Center, 100 Morris Avenue. Please call 908-277-2932 for prices, questions and to enroll. For online registration and credit card payment go to https://register.communitypass.net/summit. Group includes assistance from teen Peer Mentors from local middle and high schools to enhance your child’s participation, learning and fun!

TryCAN is a collaboration of local communities offering an array of recreation programs for youth with special needs or those who need special accommodation. There are no resident fees involved and all are welcome!
