Pedestrian ID'd In Fatal Hit And Run In N. Plainfield
A Union County man has been identified as the pedestrian hit and killed by an SUV early Tuesday. Police seek help to locate the SUV.

NORTH PLAINFIELD, NJ — A Union County man has been identified as the pedestrian hit and killed by an SUV early Tuesday morning in North Plainfield. Police are asking for the public's help to find the SUV.
Jose Humberto Burgos, 58, of Plainfield was crossing Watchung Avenue with another person at 1 a.m. on Tuesday.
A vehicle — described as a dark-colored SUV, possibly a Toyota 4-Runner — was driving south towards Plainfield at a high rate of speed and struck the pedestrian, North Plainfield Police report.

Burgos was transported to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital/New Brunswick where he was pronounced dead, according to the Somerset County Prosecutor's Office.
The vehicle reportedly should have fresh damage on the front passenger side such as a broken headlight, hood damage and grill damage, North Plainfield Police report.

"The vehicle made no effort to slow down and never stopped after striking the pedestrian," police said.
Anyone who was in the area around 1 a.m. or may have witnessed this incident, or saw the vehicle fleeing towards Plainfield at a high rate of speed is asked to contact the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office at 908-231-7100 or the North Plainfield Borough Police Department at 908-769-2937.
