Toddler Airlifted After Parking Lot Accident [Updated]

Boy, father taken to UMDNJ for treatment of injuries.

Watchung police said a 2-year old boy was taken to UMDNJ by the NorthStar medivac after the boy and his father were struck by a vehicle in the parking lot at the Stop and Shop grocery store, at 6:13 p.m.

The father, 48, of Plainfield, was taken to UMDNJ by ambulance.

Police are still investigating the accident, which was captured on security cameras in the lot, with additional details expected to be released later.

Initial reports of the accident noted the driver of the vehicle was driving down an aisle of the lot, and not backing out. The driver did not flee the area and stayed at the scene as police and Watchung Rescue Squad members responded to the accident.

The helicopter landed at the Mount St. Mary Academy ballfields for the medivac.

Also responding to the incident were volunteers with the Watchung Fire Department, as well as Overlook Medical Center paramedics.
