BRIDGEWATER, N.J. – The Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Operation Helping Hand Program invites community members to participate in the Operation Helping Hand: Running for Recovery 5K Run and Walk on Saturday, September 12, 2026, at Duke Island Park in Bridgewater. The event will take place from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and is designed to bring the community together to raise awareness about substance use disorders, celebrate recovery, and connect individuals and families with local treatment and recovery resources.All registered participants will receive an official Operation Helping Hand: Running for Recovery 5K finisher medal, a commemorative event T-shirt, and a complimentary post-race ice cream. Awards will be presented to the top overall male and female finishers, as well as the top three male and female finishers in each age division. Children ages 7 and under are invited to participate in the Kids Dash at no cost.In addition to the 5K run and walk, attendees can enjoy a variety of family-friendly activities and public safety demonstrations. The Somerset County Sheriff’s Office K-9 Unit will conduct a demonstration at 10:30 a.m., and the Somerset County SWAT vehicle will be on display throughout the event.More than just a race, the Running for Recovery 5K is a community outreach event that promotes hope, healing, and support for those impacted by addiction. Participants of all ages and fitness levels are encouraged to walk or run in support of recovery while helping reduce the stigma surrounding substance use disorder.Throughout the event, attendees will have the opportunity to visit resource tables featuring treatment providers, recovery support organizations, prevention agencies, and community partners. Families can also explore interactive displays from local law enforcement agencies and public safety organizations.“Recovery is a journey that no one should have to face alone,” said Somerset County Prosecutor John P. McDonald. “This event is an opportunity for our community to come together, show support for individuals and families affected by addiction, and highlight the many resources available throughout Somerset County. Gina's Tennis World will celebrate the grand opening of its third court on Saturday, Sept. 12, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 649 Springfield Avenue.
The addition comes with a new sign on Springfield Avenue that owner Gina Genovese hopes will finally put the longtime tennis club on the map for residents who may not have known it was there.
The grand opening will begin with a ribbon-cutting ceremony with Mayor Angie Devanney at 11 a.m. From 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., guests can try out HEAD demo rackets against a ball machine and test their skills by hitting targets for prizes.
Throughout the event, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., guests can take photos with life-sized cutouts of tennis stars Carlos Alcaraz, Jannik Sinner, Serena Williams, Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic. A raffle will give one lucky winner the chance to take a cutout home.
"After being in business for 43 years in Berkeley Heights, I am so excited to have the opportunity to have more kids and adults learning to love the game of tennis," Genovese said. "I still enjoy teaching even more than I did in 1983."
Tanvi Silvester, a former Gina's Tennis World player now in college, said the club's environment made all the difference in her experience learning the sport.
"I'd recommend Gina's Tennis World because it's such a friendly environment," Silvester said. "Starting a new sport can be intimidating at any age, and the environment you learn in plays a huge role in how much you end up loving the game. Gina, Wendy and the entire staff are so welcoming and kind. They make you want to come back and fall in love with tennis."
Julia Jarvis, a student and player at the club for 22 years, echoed that sentiment.
"Gina's Tennis World has always been community-focused, where everyone feels like family," Jarvis said. "It's not an ultra-competitive, toxic or intimidating culture, and it's a safe place to learn. This new chapter will let her share her gift with even more people, and I'm truly so excited for her and her world."

About Gina's Tennis World Gina Genovese founded Gina's Tennis World in 1983 after coming off the women's professional tour, quickly attracting nationally ranked players — including, in one year, 12 boys who were ranked No. 1 on their high school teams.
