UPDATE: First Case Of Enterovirus EV-D68 In Somerset County False Alarm

The first case of Enterovirus EV-D86 in Somerset County was an apparent false alarm.

Director and health officer at Middle-Brook Regional Health Commission, Kevin G. Sumner, confirmed that the first case of Enterovirus EV-D86 in Somerset County was an apparent false alarm.

Dr. Daniel Gallagher, superintendent for the Bound Brook School District, sent home a letterto parents on Oct. 10 which stated the first case of Enterovirus EV-D68 was confirmed at Bound Brook High School.

Sumner told nj.com that Dr. Gallagher may have had confirmation about a “less severe strain” of Enterovirus, but it was not made clear in his letter.

“The purpose of this letter is to inform you that we have confirmed our first case of the Enterovirus EV-D68 at Bound Brook High School,” it said in the letter.

Adding, “The district administration and maintenance department is working directly with our school physician and the health department to ensure that all proper protocols are being followed in regards to the safety of our staff and students,”

This would have marked the first case of Enterovirus EV-D68 reported in Somerset County this year.
