Watchung Arts Center Announce Fall Season

The Watchung Arts Center announces its Fall 2014 Performance and Exhibit schedule

The Watchung Arts Center will kick off its 2014-15 concert season with a performance by musician/historian David Kincaid, presenting a compelling combination of the songs and history of the Irish in the American Civil War. Kincaid performs in period clothing, presenting an engaging, all-ages program appealing to both history buff and the Irish/Celtic music fan alike.
The concert, on September 27 at 8:00 PM, will conclude the celebration of Watchung History Day. Tickets are $16 Advance Sale, $20 At Door ($18 WAC Members, $10 students) and can be purchased at http://watchungartscenter.eventbrite.com.
Other performances on the fall schedule include:
• October 11 and November 15 – The Improvables, an evening zany, raucous one-of-a-kind and never-to-be-repeated improvisational humor.
• October 18 - “Comedy Plus A Side Order of Thinking”a collection of three short plays, plus stand-up comedy, from Jennifer DiOrio’s Offsides Productions.
• October 25 – Marty Eigen’s Beacon Hill Jazz Band, featuring pianist Bob Aquino.
• November 21 – Rio Clemente, “The Bishop of Jazz”
• December 13 – Marty Eigen’s Beacon Hill Jazz Band 12th Annual Holiday Gala
Each month, the Center displays the work of local artists in its two galleries, opening each show with a gala art reception, open to the public, on the first Sunday of the month. The exhibits scheduled for the fall are:
• September - “Essential and non-essential: Real portraits”, a two person show highlighting the works of Paul XO Pinkman and Neal Korn; and Justin Vann Walden’s exhibit, “Time...Transition...Jazz”
• October – Unique Visions Workshop; and Ross Wagner exhibit.
• November - New Jersey Photography Forum 20th Anniversary Gala Juried Photography Exhibit
• December – Annual Watchung Arts Center Members Juried Show
In addition to its performance and exhibit schedule, the Watchung Arts Center also features classes for adults and children. The 14-week Fall Yoga session begins on September 8, and an 11-week Zumba class will begin on September17. Children’s classes in Drawing and Painting Enrichment are also slated to begin in September. Life Drawing sessions for adults are held throughout the year.
The WAC also provides meeting space for groups such as the Contemporary Art Group (CAG), the Unique Vision Workshop and the New Jersey Federation of Camera Clubs. The Watchung Arts Center is available for rental for parties and special events, and also offers Children’s Art Birthday Parties, hosted by art instructor Monica Otero.
The Watchung Arts Center is located on the circle at 18 Stirling Road, Watchung, NJ. The office and galleries are open Tues.-Fri. noon-5pm and Sat. 10:00am-3:00pm.
