Watchung Deer Hunt Underway Through February

Shooting is limited to 3 tracts of municipal land, and also on 3 tracts of privately owned land in Watchung Borough.

WATCHUNG, NJ — Watchung Borough's deer hunt has begun and will continue until Feb. 1, 2019.

The deer management program will be conducted as follows:

  • Week of Nov. 26
  • Week of Dec. 3
  • Week of Dec. 10
  • Week of Dec. 17

There will be no hunting activity the weeks of Dec. 24 or the week of Dec. 31.

The program will resume for the following weeks:

  • Week of Jan. 7
  • Week of Jan. 14
  • Week of Jan. 21
  • Week of Jan. 28.

The end of the hunt is on Friday, Feb. 1, 2019 for the 2018-2019 season.

The hunt will include controlled hunting via firearm by Warren Blue Ridge Sportsmen, Inc. on three tracts of municipal land, and also on three tracts of privately owned land from, as permitted by State regulations.

Shooting is limited at this time to the three sites approved and designated in the program and will only be done from elevated tree stands.

A 24-hour telephone hot line (908-745-2111 Option 1) will be in operation at the Watchung Borough Municipal Building and will be maintained by the Borough to provide updated information if any new tracts are added or removed.

This information will also be placed on Local Cable Access Channel 15, and posted on the Watchung Borough website: www.watchungnj.gov.

Culling will take place on the following tracts Monday through Friday, dawn to dusk.

Watchung Borough Deer Culling Tracts 2018/19 Season:

  • Starting Nov. 26:

Site # 1 – 19.8 acres west end of Mountain Boulevard

Site # 2 – 6.4 acres – between Route 22 and Johnston Drive – east end

Site # 3 – 1.4 acres east on Mountain Boulevard

Starting Dec. 3:

Site # 4 - 40 acres on Bonnie Burn Rd.

Starting Dec. 10:

Site # 5 – 9.56 acres on Sequoia Drive

Site # 6 – 1.5 acres on Elsinore Drive
