Watchung Hills Regional Students Artwork Featured in WAC Show

Artwork by Watchung Hills Regional student Joyce Samarina, of Green Brook, will be featured in the Watchung Arts Center's art exhibit “Emerging Artists,” featuring recent winners of the DuCret school of Art competition along with other very talented WHRHS students.

Other students exhibiting include Long Hill studnets Annika Chan, Steve Dodge and Erica Spinelli, and Warren students Olivia Hampton, Sruchika Sabu and Brianna Wu. 

The teachers of WHRHS will also be exhibiting along with their students showcasing an incredible variety of media and originality.   Teachers include: Vincent Colabella,10 years at WHRHS, teaches Photo I, Photo II, Photo III and Advanced Placement Conceptual Photography;  Joan Thomson, 30 years at WHRHS, teaches introduction to Art courses, Fine Art III and  Advanced Placement 2-D Design; Kate Griffin, 5 years at WHRHS, teaches Fine Art I, Art  III and Photo I; Carin Sankus,  5 years at WHRHS, teaches Ceramics I,II, Advanced Ceramics and Advanced Placement 3-D Design; Michelle Truskowski,  3  years at WHRHS, teaches Jewelry, Ceramics I and Art Studio; Steven Speeney,  8 years at WHRHS, teaches Computer Graphics I, II III; and Brian Dursee, 9 years at WHRHS, teaches Fine Art I and Fine Art II.  All of the teachers continue to pursue their own art work, exhibit and sell their work in the NY/NJ regional area. 

The Visual Arts Program at Watchung Hills offers three and four year courses of study in Printing, Drawing, Photography, Graphic design, Ceramics and 3-D Design. This Exhibit will highlight the work of the schools junior and senior students.

The Lower Gallery will feature the exhibition “Chiaroscuro” by artist C.B. Anderson, aka Corky Villani, who during her 40 year career was fortunate to have studied and worked with some very talented painters in the United States and London, England. 

In London, she studied with Caroline Duckworth-King and the Hampstead Artist's Association.  In the United States Ms. Anderson was most influenced by the instruction of Margi Cochran, Rene Roblis, Enrique Flo res-Galbis and more recently Frank Arcuri.   

She has recently shown in the Bernardsville Library, the Mountain Art Show and won recognition in the Tewksbury Historical Society show.  Ms. Anderson has also entered many shows and has won many awards.  Coming full circle, Corda Beth is returning to her love of still life in oils. She enjoys the simple beauty of the fruits and flowers she works with, as well as the objects which compliment or contain them. She has enjoyed working with antique pieces and recording their beauty in oils for all the time. She is pleased to be returning to the WAC for her solo exhibition.

The public is invited to attend the opening reception from 1–4 p.m. Sunday to meet the artists.  Refreshments will be served. 

Gallery hours are Wednesday through Friday from 12 – 3 p.m. or Tuesday and Saturday by appointment only.
