Greenbrook Road and Water Main Repairs Coming

After several road closures in July , New Jersey Amerian Water Co. has announced plans to replace the aging water line on Greenbrook Road, Township Administrator Kelly Cupit announced.

In addition, Cupit said the road will be repaved between Washington Avenue and Warrenville Road, pending county funding. The road has become deteriorated because of multiple water main breaks, she said, noting there have been seven water main brakes between the two roads in just six years.

On top of that, there have been three water main brakes between Washington and Rock avenues in six years.

Cupit annouced the plans at the Sept. 3 Township Committee meeting, and added that “as long as county funds it, the road will be paved from Washington Avenue to Andrew Street.” 

Cupit said that she expects the work should be completed by next spring.

According to New Jersey American Water Spokesman Richard Barnes, the line in Green Brook which has been causing so much trouble is a six-inch line probably dating back to the 1940s.

The company is also undertaking —that pipe has also suffered numerous breaks. 

A few days after the second water main break in Green Brook, some readers participated in , with most reporting they were unhappy with the way utility companies were maintaining facilities. It seems that they have just taken a step to fix that.
