$127 School Tax Increase For Wayne Homeowners Slated For This Year
Insurance costs are set to increase and lower the original anticipated increase of $131.

WAYNE, N.J. — A reduction in the school district’s budget thanks to lower health insurance costs means that the average homeowner’s taxes should be $127, not $131 as originally presented.
Medical and prescription benefit costs decreased by more than $862,000 because the district's ratio of claims to premiums had decreased. Of the $862,000, more than $197,000 came off automatically thanks to a health insurance waiver.
The board voted 5-3 to bring back specific line items that were eliminated from the preliminary budget, including the YMCA camp, Meadowlands trip, and the Environmental Center, for a total of $486,000.
