262 Warehouse Jobs Cut In Passaic Co. As Harmon Face Values Stores Shutter

TOTOWA, NJ — More than 260 Harmon Stores warehouse workers were laid off in Totowa as the brand's parent company shuts all its retail stores.

NJ-based Bed Bath & Beyond, which owns Harmon Face Values and Buy Buy Baby, is shuttering 150 stores and cutting 20 percent of its workforce nationwide. The company shuttered all Harmon Face Values locations, including Wayne's, as part of its reduction plan. The brand is still available on the Bed Bath & Beyond website.

A Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN notice) from the NJ Department of Labor lists 262 positions lost, with an effective date of April 1 for a Harmon Stores Inc. warehouse in Totowa.

WARN notices are mandated by U.S. Labor law and require companies with 100 or more employees to give 60 days’ notice before closing a plant or having a mass layoff.

Another 1,033 Bed Bath & Beyond employees will be laid off this year according to state WARN notices: 572 in Port Reading on March 28, 84 in Secaucus on April 5, and 377 at its corporate headquarters in Union on April 9.

As Forbes reported, a number of other big American companies including Meta, Amazon, Indeed, Walmart, and Disney have been handing down layoffs in recent weeks.

The New Jersey Department of Labor maintains a public list of WARN notices filed in the state, which include the number of layoffs from each company. The listings don't include the percentage of workers that each company cut, nor do they contain information on whether the businesses enacted smaller job cuts elsewhere in the state.
