6 Wayne Students Named National Merit Semifinalists

Students could get part of $35 million in scholarships.

Six Wayne students are among the 1.5 million high school juniors who earned a chance to receive one of 8,000 National Merit Scholarship worth about $35 million.

Emily Chazen, Alicia Darwin, and Chamaka Kalutola are the students from Wayne Hills High School. Ellen Guo, David Padover, and Jusung Park are the students from Wayne Valley High School.

Students earn the chance for a scholarship based how they scored on the 2012 Preliminary SAT.

Less than one percent of high school seniors are named semifinalists.

A pool of 15,00 finalists will compete for the scholarships. Recipients will be announced between April and July 2014.
