$605K Pickleball Court Project On Wayne Council Agenda Wednesday
The township received a grant from the county to finance part of the $605,000 project at Dave Waks Memorial Park, council records show.
WAYNE, NJ — New pickleball courts could be ready this fall in Wayne, as Township Council will potentially vote to approve funding for new places to play at Dave Waks Memorial Park (Barbour Pond Park).
The council already approved a $225,000 grant for the project from the Passaic County Open Space, Farmland and Historic Preservation Trust Fund. On Wednesday's council agenda is an ordinance authorizing the issuance of $344,000 in bonds, to finance part of the $605,000 appropriated for the pickleball project.
Township planning documents show the potential for at least four pickleball courts in the back of the park, which is located at 39 Barbour Pond Road.

At July's council meeting, Councilman Al Sadowski said the project could be completed by September or October, a bit later than anticipated.
"Dust off your pickleball skills, you've got a couple months to practice before you can play over in the back of Dave Waks Memorial Park," said Sadowski, who represents Wayne's second ward.

Also this week, the council is also considering adopting an ordinance that would shorten the amount of time property owners have to remove graffiti from their buildings.
Currently, the township code section on vandalism allows a 90-day window for property owners to clean up any unsightly graffiti on buildings, after they get a written notice to remove it. The proposed ordinance would shorten that window to 30 days. Read more — Graffiti Clean-Up Would Have To Be Quicker Under New Wayne Ordinance
