A Year Later, Barber Shop Enjoying Success

G&S is a fun place where guys can get a straight-razor shave and have a great conversation.

There’s a certain feel to G&S Preakness Barber Shop. Walking in there it feels like an old-school barbershop. The people cutting hair know the names of their customers. Guys may watch a Yankees’ game while they wait for their favorite barber to be available.

Chris Bonanno bought the shop about a year ago with that exact purpose in mind.

“I’m very happy with how everything has gone,” said Bonanno. “It’s been great. We’ve been able to get a really good vibe going on here.”

Bonanno and his staff engage their customers in conversations. Laughing and smiling are commonly seen and hears on a Saturday morning. Yankee memorabilia hands on the walls.

“That’s exactly what we want. We want to be a place where people talk and exchange ideas,” Bonanno said.

G&S used to be owned by Gerry and Sal. Bonanno worked for the pair since he was a teenager before he bought the business.

Bonannno and his staff offer straightedge shaves and hot towel massages.

The shop is open Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., Thursdays from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Saturdays 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. It is located in the Preakness Shopping Center. Haircuts cost $17.
