PASSAIC COUNTY, NJ — A Passaic County man who was involved in a fatal crash in May now faces charges, according to prosecutors.
Donovan Kelly, 28, of Hewitt, faces criminal charges after an investigation revealed he was not legally allowed to be driving at the time of the fatal accident, officials say.
On May 31, around 6 p.m., police were called to Warwick Turnpike and Lake Shore Drive in Hewitt on reports of a crash.
Authorities found that a Dodge Charger and a Nissan Pathfinder collided.
The driver of the Dodge, a 30-year-old New York man, was medevacked to a nearby hospital for treatment and died from his injuries the following day.
Investigators determined that Kelly, who was behind the wheel of the Nissan, was driving with a suspended license.
On Friday, prosecutors announced that Kelly is charged with causing death while driving with a suspended license. The original reason for the license suspension was not immediately available.
If convicted, Kelly faces up to five years in prison.
